Tarmi went wire-to-wire on the final day — never relinquishing the chip lead that he started with, early this afternoon.
But it was far from a cakewalk. Tarmi had the dubious honour of being both the first — and second — person to bust out of this unlimited re-entry tournament yesterday. The third time, was indeed the charm.
Today started in a frenzy. The first two players fell within 10 minutes of the start, but thereafter, Tarmi had to show patience and resilience in equal measure, as the contest became a cagey, gruelling affair. At one point, the combatants saw just two bust outs in a 3½-hour period.
However, once that dam had burst, the action was non-stop, with players at risk of busting seemingly every hand.
By the time we were down to four, Tarmi and fellow countryman Tommi Lankinen held over 80% of the chips in play. It seemed inevitable that the pair would find themselves heads up — and so it proved.
