The Super Seniors Championship has become one of the traditional curtain-raisers at The Irish Open. In 2025, it delivered the first trophy of the festival, when Pip Arthur bested a field of 158, to take down the title. Come the early hours of Friday morning, it is likely to provide us with the opening champion of 2026.
The buy-in is €250 and cards are in the air at 15:00. Starting stacks will be 30,000, with a single re-entry available. Late reg closes at 19:30 and blind levels are 25 minutes.
The – ahem – mature players are well-catered for this year, with three dedicated events: The Seniors and The Seniors High Roller (for the positively sprightly over 50s) appearing later during the series.
Expect some familiar faces and local favourites among the field today. Andy Black and Padraig Parkinson already have their names down and are sure to be joined by some of the great and good of Irish poker, before the day is out. It has been a quiet start to the day here so far, perhaps in part due to the large contingent of deaf players, who are conducting their banter through the medium of International Sign Language.
However, we can expect an increase in volume this evening, as the Guinness will be flowing when Ireland take on the Czech Republic in their World Cup qualifier. Should make for an interesting evening’s entertainment!
