Under the gun, Thomas Fitzgerald minraised to 20,000. His neighbour, Iaran Lightbourne, three-bet to 58,000 (with 240,000 behind). The rest of the table’s cards were in the muck almost at the same time, and Fitzgerald called.

The flop: Jh Qs Qc. Both players checked.

The turn: Th. Both players checked. (This makes it sound like the checking was swift; it wasn’t).

The river: 2d. Fitzgerald checked once again and this time Lightbourne bet 105,000, just shy of half his remaining chips. After a good ponder, Fitzgerald made the call. Lightbourne showed down Ah 9h straight away, losing the pot to Fitzgerald’s pair of tens with 8c Tc.
