Poker legend John Duthie, founder of the European Poker Tour and inaugural Poker Million winner, knows a thing or two about poker etiquette. After jamming the turn here on and earning a fold from Christian Peukert, he decided that Swiss youngster Mike Koch needed some lessons.
Koch, who wasn’t even in the hand, made a comment just as this reporter was arriving at the table, but it had something to do with Duthie’s playing style. Duthie had clearly got off to a hot start, sitting with at least 100,000 chips after getting the jam through.
Duthie said to Koch “You can’t do that – you can’t comment on someone’s playing style while they are at the table playing. Maybe after I’ve busted or when you’re away from the table, but you can’t comment on it to the table, while I’m here. You have to be careful about that, you could get a penalty, maybe even DQ’d.”
Stephen Cavanagh, sitting beside Duthie, agreed, saying “Did you not see that Andy Black hand from way back. The guy got disqualified I think.”
It was all done with relative good humor, but Duthie certainly meant what he said. Koch seemed to respect the knowledge being handed down, and promised to be more careful in future.
John Duthie – 100,000.
