The legendary 2024 Irish Poker Open €1,150 Main Event is down to just five hopefuls after British grinder Stephen Groom hit the rail in sixth place for €84,480.
According to Frank Visser reporting at PokerNews, Groom three-bet shoved for 13 big blinds with jacks from the cutoff over the min-raise by Hiep Ninh. Tero Laurila four-bet shoved with queens for about 16 big blinds from the small blind. Ninh tanked before he gave up on the hand. Groom was at risk, but Laurila would have been left short if he didn’t win the hand.
Groom needed some help but the opposite was on its way with a queen spiking the flop leaving him needing a pair of runners to survive. No love came and the final five locked up a six-figure prize of €109,820.
