Another cracking day is on offer at the RDS with Day 1b of the €1 million guaranteed Irish Open Main Event starting at noon along with Day 2 of the APAT Irish Amateur Poker Championship (13 players left). The €250 Championship Ladies Event starts at 2pm with a €150 PLO Deepstack currently planned for 6pm and three different Main Event satellites.
Last year, Day 1b of the Main Event attracted 461 players. With an absolute ton of online PokerStars and Paddy Power qualifiers competing at this year’s Irish Open (more than 550!), it seems almost certain that today’s field will top last year’s number.
See schedule here. PokerNews is covering the Main Event; live updates for all other events are on the Irish Open blog.

Main Event Day 1a recap
A total of 324 players entered Day 1a of the €1,150 buy-in Main Event. Leading the 126 players who survived the day is Norway’s Bjorn Gravlien who will be taking a stack of 244,400 chips into Day 2 on Saturday. Gravlien’s biggest cash to date was in the WSOP International online tourney in 2020. Also up amongst the leaders is Aleksandrs Zenkovs from Latvia who reached the quarter-finals of the €350 Heads-Up Championship. He is clearly putting his €1,150 cash in that to good use by buying into the €1,150 Main Event. Hometown heroes who made it through yesterday include Andy Black (121,600), Padraig O’Neill (140,300), Irish Open Ambassador Chris Dowling (46,300), and bracelet winner Toby Joyce (78,100). Also through are 2011 Main Event finalist John Eames (92,400), award-winning Chip Race podcaster Dara O’Kearney (33,300) and Triple Crown winner Barny Boatman (64,000). 2013 Irish Open champion Ian Simpson bust on Day 1a but is already ij the field for Day 1b.
