They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks — but Thomas Beck had enough of them up his sleeve already.
Beck was an early frontrunner in the event, sitting in 4th spot at the second break of the Old Dogs flight on Day 1.
Combined with the Young Pups flight, the event pulled in 161 runners, and generated a prize pool of €33,577.
Beck certainly didn’t have it all his own way. His stack went up and down throughout the contest, and he regularly found himself in shove-or-fold territory.
The final table was a hotly contested affair, with the ratio of seniors to striplings remaining balanced throughout.
That was until we got three-handed. The oldies already had a 2:1 numerical advantage, with Jan Cvach the last tenderfoot standing, against Beck and American Hyndi Khomutetsky.
After agreeing a three-way chop for the money, the chips went flying in, and Beck caught the perfect flop, which took Cvach out of the running.
So with two players left, it had already been established that the Old Dogs would have their day. Unfortunately for Khomutetsky, she was unable to overturn the huge chip deficit she now found herself with, and Beck claimed the title shortly after.
If he’s looking for somewhere to spend his winnings, there are a few overseas events that would be right up his street.
