Today marks (yet another) historical day at the Irish Poker Open, as one certain game will make its first-ever appearance on the schedule. In roughly 30 minutes, the €350 Sviten Special Championship will kick off.
Originally invented by Anders “Bengan” Bengtsson in a former poker club in Sweden called just “Sviten”, this Frankenstein of a poker game combines five-card draw with five-card PLO. Thanks to people such as poker entrepreneur Martin “Franke” von Zweigbergk, the game has now spread outside of Scandinavia, and considering the wide popularity of the Irish Poker Open, it wouldn’t be surprising if today’s event becomes one of the biggest Sviten tournaments of all time.
The tournament kicks off at 14:00, and late registration will be open until 19:10. The levels are 30-minute ones; the first one features Blinds 100/200 with a 200 Ante, and all players will have a 30,000 starting stack to fiddle with.
As a Swede, this live reporter is thrilled to be the one covering the inaugural Sviten Special Championship at the Irish Poker Open, and there are no words in the English dictionary comprehensive enough to describe the excitement.
