Downes’ final hand was clearly not that which caused his stack the real damage, as he was all in preflop for under 100,000 with Js Qd, looked up by Athanasios Tavlas with As 9s.
The board ran out 6d 8h 4h 8d Ks giving both players a modest pair of board-based eights; kickers played and Tavlas’ won.
