After what may have seemed like an eternity for some, the final day of the 2026 Irish Poker Open has come and almost all Easter eggs are already in the baskets. However, nearly a dozen of them are still up for grabs at the iconic Royal Dublin Society when poker enthusiasts from near and far return to the action once again to battle for glory, money and the Irish Open trophies.
A new tournament on the schedule will be among the last events to determine its winner and the €350 Triathlon Championship is set to kick off at noon local time. The boards may be wet but don’t require any swimming, and getting through all of the orbits does’t count as cycling either. However, there may be a chip leader running away with it towards the conclusion of the event without the need to complete any laps in the vast tournament area.
So what is the Triathlon Championship actually about? The tournament will be played in traditional No-Limit Hold’em and all players receive 30,000 in chips with a unlimited re-entries available. It starts with a classic Multi Table Tournament on a 20-minute clock that will play down to the last 48 players, who all carry over their chips to the next stage.
The second stage consists of two rounds of heads-up matches that will whittle down the 48 hopefuls to the final 12 who then recommence on two six-handed tables in regular tournament format with a 25-minute clock. Once they are down to the final seven, they will combine to the final table and compete for the biggest slice of the prize pool.
It seems somewhat of a coincidence that an active marathon runner will provide the coverage of this event who is definitely not considering to enter a full triathlon anytime soon.
