
We had three worthy Irish Open winners yesterday with Balazs Somodi getting the job done in the PLO High Roller in just half an hour! Read on for all the details.
Somodi is our new €5k PLO High Roller champ
PLO specialist Balazs Somodi from Hungary made quick work of securing his first Irish Open trophy yesterday in the €5k PLO High Roller. With four players back for the final day, Somodi wrapped it up in just half an hour. Somodi is a huge PLO fan and the expansive PLO schedule at the Irish Open this year was one of the main reasons he decided to come to Dublin. “It is nice, there is a PLO event almost every day and I really like that,” he said before start of play yesterday. He has already cashed at this year’s festival with a third-place finish in the Cuatro PLO High Roller for €12,570. Last year he cashed three times – all in PLO events – including a final table appearance in the €1,150 PLO Mystery Bounty. His total live tournament haul is now well over $720,000.
There were 27 entries the €5k PLO High Roller, generating a total prize pool of €124,403. Just four players were paid.

3rd Place: Karl Hedderman – €22,400
4th Place: Ruslan Nazarenko – €14,950

Eero Abbey wins €1,150 NLH 8-Max
Finnish player Eero Abbey won his first event in Ireland last night when he took down the €1,150 NLH 8-Max. Abbey, the PokerStars Open Barcelona High Roller champion, cut a heads-up deal with Germany’s Benjamin Kuch who took €47,160 for his runner-up finish.

The event attracted 285 entries, creating a total prize pool of €290,273, paid out amongst the top 39 finishers. Others who made the money included Conor O’Driscoll, who finished sixth, Robbie Bull, Leo Worthington Leese and Paul Carr. Full updates are here and gallery here.
Georgopoulos wins Event 37, the €350 NLH 6-max Championship
Greece’s Leonidas Georgopoulos took down the €350 NLH 6-max Championship last night for a substantial €47,700 first prize, by far the biggest cash of his live poker career. The victory also secured him his first Irish flag on the Hendon Mob and took him over the $100,000 mark in live tournament winnings.
Georgopoulos survived an unpredictable final table, where any of the final four looked like potential winners at various stages. After a back-and-forth heads-up against Jonas Heuser of Germany, Georgopoulos was delighted to receive his first-ever trophy. Heuser had to settle for the runner-up prize of €28,670. There were 865 entries in all, generating a total prize pool of €206,106. A total of 46 players were paid with a min-cash worth €890. You can read all about it here and check out the gallery here.
