A whole host of female combatants are planning to rock up for tomorrow’s €250 Ladies Event. They include WSOP Online International Ladies Championship winner Jessica Marks, PokerStars Ambassador Marle Spragg and PokerStars Team Pro Georgina James, Women’s International Chess Master Sabrina Chavannes, Irish Open Ambassador Karen Muir, Debs Worley-Roberts, Rachel Warburton and Charlie Waters.
Also in the field will be Canadian superstar Vanessa Kade, a formidable player with over $3.5 million in cashes. She hit the spotlight in March 2021 when she took down the biggest PokerStars Sunday Million ever held for $1.5 million.
Numerous players have won their seats into the tourney including satellite winner Jenny Steele, Claire Hopkins who snagged her seat in an International Women’s Day competition on the Irish Open’s social media pages and science author Alex O’Brien, who won her seat at the live show to celebrate the 300th episode of Poker In the Ears.
We’re also excited to learn more about two women from Ohio who somehow met Katie Swift and were so enthused about the idea of the Irish Open that they are now over here on an Ireland poker road trip!
The €250 buy-in, single re-entry tournament starts at 2pm. Last year’s winner Elizabeth Bennett-Martin – now a Friend of the Irish Open – will also be energetically defending her title this year. Elizabeth snagged a trophy and €3,690 last year after outlasting the 63-runner field.
Training site Rec.Poker is giving a free year of premium membership to all the entrants in the Ladies Event. All players have to do is scan the QR code on a card they’ll find at their seat and use IRISH to get a complimentary year of premium membership.
Every player who makes the final table will also receive a gorgeous Claddagh pendant made with Irish Hallmarked Sterling Silver and set with a green crystal. Claddagh pendants are traditional Irish jewellery with a history dating back more than 300 years. They feature a heart to represent love, a crown standing for loyalty, and two clasped hands symbolising friendship.
