A massive congratulations is in order for Tero Laurila, who was crowned the champion of the 2024 Irish Poker Open €1,150 Main Event at the Royal Dublin Society on Sunday evening. The Main Event broke Irish Poker Open records with 3,233 entries creating a massive €3,152,175 to more than triple the lofty €1 million guarantee.
Hiep Ninh had the chip lead when a three-way deal and still had a decent lead to start heads-up play. Although Ninh already locked up the biggest prize regardless of the money to be played for, it was Laurila who stormed back to take the chip lead and had Ninh down to just 10 big blinds when the final hand took place.
According to PokerNews reporter Frank Visser, Ninh jammed his short stack with eight-seven and was called by Laurila with queen-jack. The event ended in a memorable fashion with three queens coming on the board for Laurila to win the Main Event with quads.
While Ninh did collect the bigger prize of €335,636, Laurila walked away with the trophy and a massive €292,586 prize. Congrats once again to Laurila for entering his name in the Irish Poker Open history books.
