“I turn 50 next year. I can’t wait to get into the Seniors…” So say several players of the crossover generation weaned online and experienced in the live game. Tough competition and some of the best banter available to be caught by a live coverage team make Seniors events something truly fun to watch. These nearly-Seniors are going to have to wait just a short decade more to get into a version of today’s €250 buy-in Super Seniors event, however, as entry is restricted to those over 60.
Cards hit the air at 15:00. Starting stack is 30,000 (with a single re-entry available), with 25 minute levels; it’s likely to be the first event to award a trophy at this year’s festival…
This year’s Irish Open Seniors tourneys include – for the first time – a €1,150 Seniors High Roller Championship coming up on Thursday, April 17, and a traditional €250 buy-in Seniors Championship (Event 65) on Monday, April 21.
The latter was a HUGE event last year with 401 entries creating a prize pool of over €84,000. James Clarke from the UK won his first Irish Open trophy in the early hours of the morning after muscling through the giant field. Clarke, who already had more than $1 million in live event cashes, won €16,778 after beating Ireland’s Michael Murray heads-up.
Among those who cashed in last year’s Seniors Championship were former champion Anthony Whorriskey – who won the event in 2023, multi-cashing podcaster Dara O’Kearney and Scotland’s Gordon Huntly. A total of 55 players made the money with a min-cash worth €410.
Stay tuned for live coverage from 17:00.
