After a rapid Day 2, Shamil Patel of the United Kingdom has emerged victorious in the €5,000 PLO High Roller Mystery Bounty, securing a career-best payday of €64,848. Patel dominated the final table, snagging four of the five available bounties and capturing half of the total prize pool of €129,696.

A PLO cash game specialist, Patel conquered a small but elite field of 28 entries at the Royal Dublin Society, smashing his previous biggest tournament score of $32,000. Patel swiftly dispatched Klemens Roiter heads-up, but the Austrian will take some solace in pulling the largest bounty of the event – €24,648.

Day 2 Action

Day 2 kicked off on the bubble, with Juha Helppi entering as the short-stack. Unfortunately for Helppi, his aces were cracked by Roiter, making him the last player to leave empty-handed.

Patel quickly got to work after the bubble, eliminating Markus Ristola in fifth after flopping two pair against the Finn’s aces. Roiter then disposed of Irish Open ambassador Chris Dowling to collect his sole bounty, turning a straight in a dramatic three-way all-in. Fabian Rolli, left short-stacked after that clash, was next to fall – Patel picking him off swiftly with a superior holding to set up the final showdown.

With a commanding chip lead, Patel entered heads-up play in pole position. Though Roiter managed a double-up with a full house, Patel sealed the win moments later, turning a straight to clinch the title after Roiter jammed the turn with second pair and an open-ender and missed.

Winner’s Reaction

Despite his focus on cash games, Patel made the trip to the Irish Open specifically for this tournament rather than the juicy cash action.

“It feels good—this is a big stop, and it’s a shame I have to leave on Monday,” said Patel. “I told my friends yesterday that I’d do a hit-and-run, win the trophy, and ship straight out. It’s my first time at the Irish Open, and it’s been a great experience—the venue is excellent, and the Irish always make poker fun.”

As for how the victory might shape his future poker plans, Patel confirmed he’ll be heading to Las Vegas this summer but doesn’t expect this bankroll boost to significantly alter his planned schedule.
