At Table 10, John McDowell opened to 700 from UTG+2. Denis Bos-Comombat called from the Hi-jack, and John Plunkett defended his Big Blind.
Action checked around on the flop. On the turn , everything happened. Plunkett bet 1,200, and McDowell said, “I’ll probably experience a bad beat now.” He called and turned over . “Oh shit,” his response was when he realized Bos-Comombat was still in the hand.
The dealer called over the floor and made the ruling that Bos-Comombat could do whatever he wanted. He folded, showing for trips – he got away cheap! Plunkett, who was already in the pot, couldn’t beat the McDowell flush, and his hand hit the muck.
Prior to the hand, when asked if he had any good stories from the 2025 Irish Poker Open so far, McDowell revealed he got some looks of skepticism when he mixed his Guinness with coffee. A fellow poker player who witnessed this named the cocktail “Irish Screwdriver,” and it’d be interesting to see if this drink will be featured on the Craic Den menu for the remainder of the event.
