Over the last few months, Irish Open owners Paul O’Reilly and JP McCann have been guesting on numerous podcasts talking about history of the historic event and what to expect at this year’s festival.

On the award-winning Chip Race podcast, the pair told David Lappin and Dara O’Kearney how some of their best ideas have come over pints in the pub. Sounds about right!

Paul and JP took over the running of the Irish Open back in 2016 and right from the get-go, made a crucial decision – to reduce the buy-in from €3,500 to €1,150. It was, as Dara points out on the podcast, a “master-stroke”. Paul describes growing up surrounded by poker (his Dad was a three-time European 7-card Stud Champion) and the pair hint at plans to take the Irish Open brand overseas. Exciting stuff!!
