Recap of the Day
A number of late registrations brought the total field to 243, with 98 players sitting down for Day 2.
The knockouts came at a frantic pace, and the field was quickly reduced to the bubble, where Paolo Guastalla was the unfortunate player to leave empty-handed.
Eliminations continued apace once bounties were in play, the biggest envelopes being bagged by Wendlandt, Nico Frenn and Bouwe Claushuis.
Players such as Barny Boatman, David Docherty, Hugh Smyth and Mo Nuwwarah all cashed but exited before the final table.
The final two tables quickly became one due to two hands resulting in double knockouts – in one Jannick Schob and Martyn Cavanagh fell to Wendlandt, while Geleziunas and Frenn busted to Vahid Amirzahiri.
Wendlandt came into the final table with the chip lead, and always appeared to be the most likely winner. He entered the final three and heads-up with the majority of chips, and leverage his lead well, picking his spots to pressure opponents.
In the final act, he turned a full house to render Borges’ monster draws obsolete and seal the title.
