Our most recent railbird is 2013 Main Event champion Ian Simpson, back here for the 10th anniversary of his big win and, incidentally, his engagement – if you recall, he famously proposed to his girlfriend Emma at the rail immediately the final card had been dealt. Curiously, our photographer this week Danny Maxwell took the famous photo of the proposal, and this is Danny’s first time back working at the Irish Open since that event a decade ago. Simpson, still blissfully married after almost a decade now, mentioned to Danny that the whole thing feels somewhat serendipitous this year. What a story that would be, eh?
