It was a late night finish at the 2025 Irish Open and six British players fought for the trophy in Event #26 2-7 Triple Draw Championship at Royal Dublin Society. As a matter of fact, the 123-entry strong field for the €350 buy-in saw no Irish player take home a piece of the €37,177 prize pool. Mixed games have seen many decent turnouts for the lower stakes price tags during the festival so far and this tournament was no different.

When the dust had finally settled in the early morning hours, Mitchell Jones claimed the trophy some twenty two hours after he started his travel from the UK. What did he do during the flight over to Dublin? Study the basic rules for 2-7 Triple Draw, as he had never played in any such event on the live poker circuit. And he was not the only eventual finalist to do so, as Timothy Chung apparently pulled off the same feat before bowing out in fourth place.

Jones cut a deal three ways with Siddharth Sudunagunta and Abdullah Al Shanti, as the trio continued to play for the Irish Open Event trophy and €1,400 to the eventual champion. The Guinness was flowing on the rail during three-handed play and Jones recovered from as low as two big bets during heads-up play to defeat Sudunagunta in a battle of the Brits. Al Shanti, who also has the British passport, made two deep runs in the WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas the last two years and bowed out in third place.

Final Table Result 2-7 Triple Draw Championship

Among the finalists was Cody Wagner, who was a big stack from the first break onwards and his wild roller coaster ride ended in fifth place. Also in the money were notables such as Jon Kyte and Marcel Vonk, while Stephan Campbell was the last player to leave without any cash prize to show for.

No luck was to be had for Georgina “GJReggie” James, Mason Pye, AJ Kelsall, Colton Blomberg, Calen Mcneil and Kyriakos Papadopoulos, as they all bowed out before the bubble. However, there are plenty of other tournaments on the schedule for either of them to try and scoop one of the trophies on Irish soil.
