The pace of field-shrinkage has truly shifted into a higher gear now, and even though we’re in hailing distance of the bubble (36th place is the last to leave with nothing; 55 players remain out of a starting 285), it doesn’t seem to be slowing. Most recently, two players were eliminated within seconds of each other – Kevin Duffy and Mattias Hansen.
Duffy moved in on the cutoff for around 80,000 (blinds now 3,000/6,000) when it folded to him, only to find button Baptiste Duny reshoving for over twice that. “Very bad,” sighed Duffy, seeing that his Kd Td was up against Ad Kh. The flop brought the sought-for ten – Ts Qc 6d – but the following two cards were Kc Ah, making a higher two pair for his opponent who now has 270,000.
Hansen, meanwhile, found his own open spot with 7h 7c (and a stack of 61,000), taken on by Edouardos Stavrakis with Ac Qs. An overcard-spike later, and Stavrakis is left with 280,000, while Hansen has just left.
