The 2024 Irish Open at the Royal Dublin Society has crowned another champion and it took fewer than one full hour in two heads-up matches for Alejandro Romero to earn the trophy and top prize of €5,925 in the €350 Irish Open NLH Heads-Up Championship.
Romero made quick work of Alexandru Ersen in just 29 minutes and then watched on as David Docherty defeated Jannik Bengtsen almost one hour later. When they returned for the final, it took just 24 minutes to determine the winner in the sold-out 64 entry strong field. Romero first flopped a set of queens to get paid off and the second half of the stack for Docherty vanished with ace-deuce versus ace-ten in a preflop contest.
Romero is Spanish commentator for PokerStars Live and finished in 9th place in the 2022 EPT Monte-Carlo Main Event for a payday of €69,990. Primarily an online player before that, it was the biggest score on the live poker circuit for the Spaniard. Docherty was denied another trophy here in Dublin but can now fully concentrate on his title defence in the Irish Open €1,150 Main Event. One year ago, he came out on top of a 2,491 entry strong field to take home the top prize of €365,000.
