Timothy Shirley, an early Day 1c chip leader who’s flown under our radar somewhat over the last 14 hours of the Main Event, has been on a tear this level, busting a quarter of his table in minutes. Sam Goodman was taking his leave as we arrived; no sooner had the new chips settled in Shirleys stack than they were back in action.

Shirley opened for 60,000 and Paul Rigg raised to somewhere in the 200,000 region, but the following Shirley fourbet and Rig fivebet shove happened so fast there were just stacks of all heights all over the place – the pot ended up being seven figures.

Shirley: Kh Kc
Rigg: Ah Ac

With dominating pair and suits, it’s understandable that Rigg stood up with a little show of satisfaction, but his exhilaration was to be short lived: Shirley spiked a king and ended Rigg’s trophy hopes just like that. Rigg did just hit a payjump, though, and receives €6,050.
